Please visit https://www.weather.gov/pah/DroughtInformationStatement for previous statements. 1 U.S. Drought Monitor Heavy Rain Eliminates Severe Drought Drought intensity and Extent D1 (Moderate Drought): Covers all of part of Perry, New Madrid, Wayne, Butler, Carter and Ripley Counties in southeast Missouri as well as areas along and north of a line from Grand Tower to Benton to Fairfield, Illinois D0: (Abnormally Dry): Cover the rest of the region. Recent Change in Drought Intensity One Week Drought Monitor Class Change. Drought Improved: One category across most of the region. Precipitation The region received a decent rain late last week with many areas picking up 1-2 inches. This combined with the rain event earlier last week to help improve drought conditions. Agricultural Impacts While topsoil remains adequate, soil moisture remains below normal for much of the Ohio and middle Mississippi Valleys. Seven Day Precipitation Forecast After another cold weekend, the region will begin to moderate as we head into the new week. Southerly flow will bring warmer temperatures but also increasing moisture and several chances for rain. Much of the region could see another 1-2 inches will locally higher amounts possible.
